To open an account and make a transfer, you need to provide your full legal name (in English + the full name on your ID with exactly the same character (ENG/Kanji/Kana) on the document), date of birth, nationality, occupation, current residential address, Individual Number, and email address. You’ll also need to upload photos of your valid identification documents that match the personal details you provide.
To verify your account, you can submit either:
  • My Number Card, or
  • A valid photo ID (e.g., The front side of your My Number Card, resident card) along with an Individual Number document (e.g., Back side of your My Number Card).
In compliance with Japan's regulatory requirements, we are required to verify your identity through KYC (Know Your Customer) information as part of standard financial services practice.

After setting up a transaction, you can make a payment to Instarem via bank transfer. The bank account details will be displayed on the payment confirmation page and will also be sent to you via email for your reference. Simply follow the instructions to complete your transfer. Please note that the bank transfer amount must be the same with the net-source amount. We do not accept separated funding/bulk funding for the multiple transactions.

However, we do have maximum transfer limits in place to comply with regulations and ensure the safety of your transfers. No. Instarem’s services in Japan are app-only, so you won’t be able to send money using the website. To send money internationally with the Instarem app, just follow these simple steps:
  • Download the Instarem app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Create an account in the app.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your transfer.
No, Instarem does not allow individuals to have multiple accounts.
No, Japan does not allow joint bank accounts. To send money, your bank account must match the name on your Instarem account.
A Foreign Politically Exposed Person (PEP) is someone who holds a prominent public position or role in a foreign country, such as a Head of State, Prime Minister, Minister, Supreme Court Judge, Ambassador, Director of the Central Bank, or certain high-ranking officials. Family members or former members of these categories are also considered PEPs. PEPs are subject to stricter rules for financial transactions in Japan. If you are a PEP, please inform us during registration for regulatory and security purposes.

No, the remitter needs to pay the whole fees.
Instarem is available to Japan residents, citizens, and individuals aged 18 and above who have an Individual Number and a Japan-based bank account.
To add a recipient, you will need to provide: -
  • Full name
  • Full address
  • Email address
  • Contact number
  • Your relationship with the recipient
  • The recipient's receiving country and currency
You can edit a recipient’s details in the ‘Recipients’ section of our money transfer app. However, once a transaction has been initiated for a recipient, their details can no longer be edited.
We encourage you to enter the right beneficiary bank account details and fund the transaction from your own account to avoid a case of refund. However, if a refund needs to be issued, we will ask for your bank details and transfer money back to the same bank account that you used while funding Instarem.
